CLASSIC AMERICAN APPLE PIE The classic and delicious American Apple Pie

Ingredients 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
1/4 cup ice water
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
7 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
1 cup white sugar
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
1 tbsp lemon juice
1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and sugar2. Add the chilled butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs3. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together4. Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour5. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well to coat the apples evenly6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C7. Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place the dough in the pie plate and trim the edges8. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot with butter pieces9. Roll out the second disc of dough and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal10. Cut small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape11.
