CLASSIC AMERICAN APPLE PIE
The classic and delicious American Apple Pie
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 7 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and sugar
- 2. Add the chilled butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- 3. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together
- 4. Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour
- 5. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well to coat the apples evenly
- 6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C
- 7. Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place the dough in the pie plate and trim the edges
- 8. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot with butter pieces
- 9. Roll out the second disc of dough and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal
- 10. Cut small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape
- 11. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes
- 12. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 40-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender
